Origin
The client
This company is one of the largest producers of thermoplastic resins in the Americas. As part of the petrochemical sector, it plays an important role in numerous production chains.
Digital Center
The Digital Center is the company's innovation area, supporting other business areas in developing products and solutions to accelerate the organization's digital transformation.
New Ventures
The digital center had a New Ventures team, which led new internal ventures and solutions projects with the aim of optimizing the company's processes and reducing the impact of the sector.
Origin
Origin was an initiative of the New Ventures team at Digital Center, with the aim of understanding and monitoring the carbon footprint at the product level in the plastic chain.
A solution for the product's carbon footprint management
Based on the company's process, from the extraction of raw materials to contact with the brand owner, suppliers are connected, giving visibility to CO2 emissions as proof of the sustainable value of products on the market.

Discovery
Through qualitative research, we understood the views of the main actors in the chain, identified as Brand Owners, those who make the connection between the product and the end customer.
Research objective
To understand how sustainability is guiding Brand Owners to manage their production chains.
How the research helped at this stage
Identify niche pains and opportunities that make it feasible for Origin to act.
Interviews conducted with
Brand Owners,
Converters,
LCA Analysts and
other stakeholders.

At the time, the demand for emission and carbon footprint data was at the corporate level, and the PCF (product carbon footprint), a view of emissions at the product level, would be the next step.
Our questions:
Is there an opportunity to anticipate the need for PCF and develop a carbon footprint solution at the product level?
Could the product passport influence the market to standardize the product footprint along the chain?

Finally, in order not to generate solutions without a clear objective, we selected the opportunities considered most promising and delimited the scope of prioritized solutions.

With a good understanding of the product vision, we were able to determine what the first features of our business would be and how they would fit together.
This artifact helped to decide what would be the characteristics of the product, the initial path and its strategy.
